300 fines were imposed in West Midlands when police broke up illegal parties

Between February 8 and 14, a total of 317 fixed criminal charges were issued to people who violated police regulations.

A total of 1,568 people have been given “exit instructions” – where people are fined, arrested or ordered to be dispersed.

That same night, officials discovered a garage in the Black Country that had been converted into the Covid Arms pub.

Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson said: “Most of the events police have been called to have been house parties where people celebrate birthdays, weddings or whatever and meet in large numbers in violation of Covid regulations .

“Over the weekend, Friday and Saturday nights, 121 violations were reported by the police, causing an additional 117 of the £ 200 fines and nine of the £ 800 fines.

“On Saturday night there was a particularly large gathering near the jewelry district where someone had set up an illegal bar.

“It was estimated that somewhere in the region there were 150 people in one place, which might or might not be considered a safe place for Covid because these people were not socially distant – they fragrantly broke the law.”

Mr Jamieson said the DJ at the meeting was standing in front of £ 10,000 – but raised concerns about the level of “hostility” towards officers in disbanding the illegal party.

He added: “What we have noticed, which is slightly different, is the level of hostility towards the police in resolving this event, which was substantial.

“Officers were pelted with bottles, one officer was injured and it is lucky that other officers were not injured. It underscores that very often police officers do not have time to distance themselves socially when dealing with this particular type of event do have .

“It is difficult and problematic and I am making the plea again – those officials who are on the front lines, who cannot socialize and who sometimes do not have the option of having the full PPE available when they are involved in one are in a violent and escalating situation, these officers should be prioritized for the Covid shock. “
