£ 5 million to fund the Stone Yard apartment program in Birmingham

A large housing project in Birmingham city center received £ 5 million in funding.

The West Midlands Combined Authority has invested the capital in the £ 280 million Stone Yard program, in which Birmingham developer Court Collaboration has approved the construction of 995 homes on the former Bull Ring Trading Estate in Digbeth.

The complex will be built on seven blocks of different heights with up to 32 floors, with all units only available for rent.

There will be a 20 percent provision of affordable housing based on the combined authority’s definition, which relates to local wages rather than house prices, as well as 30,000 square feet of commercial space for uses like a gym, movie theater, and common areas.

The combined authority’s contribution will be used to redevelop the property on the corner of Alcester Street and High Street Deritend, which has been vacant in recent years but also once housed a Peugeot showroom.

The Birmingham Post Business Awards are back for 2021 and can now be submitted here. The event will only take place online on Tuesday, June 15, and will celebrate businesses and individuals across 12 categories, including our Overall Company of the Year and a special award.

The closing date for entries for the awards is Monday, April 19th. Sponsorship opportunities are now also available. Please email paige.jackson@reachplc.com for more information and follow the hashtag #BPBAwards for updates on social media.

The ceremony will be hosted on our new virtual event platform, The Awards Room, which gives nominees and sponsors the opportunity to network in real time and hear from speakers.

All of your attendees will be placed together on your own table and you can invite people from outside your group to join you during the event.

Your table will also have a private chat so you can communicate with your colleagues during the awards. For more information on our business awards and events, please visit www.reachplcevents.com.

West Midlands Mayor Andy Street said: “It is really great news that an additional 995 houses are to be built on wasteland in the area to create more local jobs and help protect valuable green belt land.

“I am particularly pleased that this development is taking place in Digbeth, which is undergoing radical change.”

Anthony McCourt, CEO of Court Collaboration, added, “We are delighted to have received this investment from the combined authority and look forward to starting on-site in the months ahead.

“The Stone Yard is one of several fantastic developments in the heart of Birmingham. We are very proud to be at the forefront of the ambitious, innovative and thoroughly modern development in our beloved city.”

The project is expected to be completed by 2026.
