James Corden flees to the bathroom to concentrate and get away from the family during the lockdown

Super talent James Corden is going to need a new closet soon … and an extra closet to mention.

The cheerful star of TV comedies, dramas, West End shows, films and host of the Late Late Show has already won nine Emmy Awards.

And a Golden Globe could come this weekend if it – along with the British Sacha Baron Cohen and Dev Patel – is nominated for best performance in a musical or comedy.

So James, where do you keep your awards?

“You know what? I keep them all in a closet,” he says. “I hide them all because I don’t know if it is necessarily good for me to see them every day and think, ‘Oh, look at me’.

“I think this is where you can break loose if you think you are a little bit more of a guy than you really are.

“They’re all in a closet at work and one day I’ll probably take them out and look at them, but right now I think it’s best to try to look ahead.”

That explains the need for additional closet space. But what about the cloakroom?

Well, while James is more on our screens these days than ever, there has been significantly less of him since he started a new regime with WW – Weight Watchers.

Since becoming a WW Ambassador in 2021, he’s thrown a stone over the stone – cutting down his pizza consumption and even cooking a chickpea version of his favorite dish himself. Fancy suits like the one he’s wearing here with Mrs. Julia Carey either have to be picked up – or dropped.

These are good times for James. Since taking the job on the U.S. chat show in 2015, he’s been nominated 22 times for awards – some for his hugely popular carpooling karaoke segment, which featured stars like Britney Spears, Celine Dion and Sir Paul McCartney with him in singing in his limousine.

42-year-old James also hosted the 70th Tony Awards – an honor in itself.

During the pandemic, he continued to host the Late Late Show and even teamed up with David Beckham for a Miami Vice sketch.

And a few days ago, the world was excited during his relaxed open bus chat with Prince Harry in Los Angeles.

James has a wonderful talent for making people comfortable – so they open up. Harry was happy to discuss his reasons for stepping down from royal duties, personal life, and zoom chats with the Queen and Prince Philip.

And when asked how he sees his future after the lockdown, Harry said to James, “My life is always about public service.”

He said his wife Meghan “joined in” – and Harry spoke fondly of son Archie’s love of waffles.

Lockdown wasn’t always easy for James himself, and the Gavin & Stacey star admits he often flees to the bathroom – to concentrate.

James says, “My new pandemic hobby is hiding in the bathroom just to read and write emails. I say, “Just go to the bathroom kids” and could be there for 40 minutes reading and writing emails.

“It’s a wonder my wife didn’t kill or leave me during that time. Be honest. Who wants to walk a mile in their shoes? She keeps our whole family together.”

James spoke to Oprah Winfrey at a WW webinar after being announced as an ambassador. And he says the healthy eating regime – which focuses on wellness rather than just losing weight – has changed his life.

The star, who rose to fame on British comedy drama Fat Friends, stated, “I feel like I have joined in and the benefits to my family and life will be monumental as I really feel it, know They.

“We are all told that this is easy and that someone in our life is saying to just keep our lives together – but it is not easy. It’s really hard, but if we do this and check in and be aware of it, we can make these changes and inspire others to do so.

“We’ll never be people to say that losing that weight was easy because it wasn’t. It’s really difficult, but I’m right there with you. “

A number of family members have signed up for the weight loss program that James first tried when he was 11 when he lived in High Wycombe, Bucks.

He says: “My whole family is now in the WW. My sisters are in and they are. My parents are there.

“I went to Weight Watchers with my mom when I was 11 or 12, and it’s the only thing that has ever worked for my mom.

“So my sisters and my mother and father do a WW Zoom weigh-in every three weeks and clap each other when they have done well. It is great. “

James has also set his eyes on marketing a low-calorie chickpea pizza. He says, “There is a recipe I think WW should sell. You could call it a chick pizza. It’s chickpea base with sauce, not too much cheese.

“We put broccoli and red onions on top. Last weekend the kids wanted to order pizza, which is a nightmare for me, sitting in the car while they eat it because I just can’t pick it.

“I just can not. That would be okay if I could eat a good piece – but I look at a good pizza. So me and Jools said, “Why don’t we make this chick pizza?” It was sensational.

“We did it with the kids. They had one from the delivery point and we had chick pizza. I felt so complacent.

“I would love to see a day under 200 pounds. When I met my wife I was 20 years old. When I started this on WW I was 236lb and now I am 220lb. I would love to see a day under 200 pounds. I will really try to keep going.

“I need to change my relationship with food and the way I consume food.”

At his lowest point, James says he’s scolded himself about his size in the mirror. He adds, “I had long conversations with myself in mirrors. I said, ‘Is that what it’s going to be? Will you look like this forever ‘

“Some days I said, ‘I don’t want to talk to you’. On other days, I said, ‘Yeah, let’s change something’.

“So now that’s what I do. I’ll think about what I’m putting in my body.”

James and TV producer Julia reported on their three children – Max (10), Carey (6) and Charlotte (3). But he doesn’t want them to follow in his show business footsteps.

He says, “I want my children to be happy, good people. More than anything else, this is my dream to find everything in this world that makes you happy.

“I think all the other things are irrelevant after that. I want them to be happy and run with it and never give up. “
