Mahindra XUV900 will be India’s first coupe SUV

The Indian automaker Mahindra presented its first coupé-like SUV prototype called the XUV Aero five years ago. It’s now official that the car will debut in 2024 and go into production as the Mahindra XUV900.

Like the upcoming XUV700, the crossover is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo petrol four-cylinder with 190 PS (187 PS / 140 kW) and a 2.2-liter turbo diesel with 185 PS (182 PS / 136 kW) . The six-speed manual and Aisin automatic transmissions will also come from this model, but AWD is unlikely.

The recently founded Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE), based in West Midlands, UK, is expected to develop the XUV900 together with the well-known coachbuilder Pininfarina, which is now also part of the Indian automotive group.

The original concept car from 2016 (see photos and video) was designed by Mahindra Design based on the SUV model XUV500. The company had originally intended to use the drivetrain on this model as well, but while the show car attracted great interest, the manufacturer never continued producing it, believing it could not sell even 2,000 units a month.

In other news, Indian automaker Tata Motors had to postpone the launch of its OMEGA-Arc-based coupe SUV called the H8 for better times.
