The City of Staffordshire is introducing a loyalty card program to increase footfall and local spending

A new loyalty program was launched in a North Staffordshire town to increase attendance after the pandemic.

Introduced by the Jubilee2 gym and funded by the Newcastle-under-Lyme Business Improvement District (BID), the Love Local rebate program aims to attract more shoppers to the city center and increase local spending.

The program calls for gym members – as well as those paying for swimming lessons – to be offered exclusive promotions, promotions, and discounts at a number of retailers across town.

Alex Taylor, Newcastle-under-Lyme BID Manager, said, “The new Love Local loyalty card system is designed to encourage more residents to shop locally and visit their local main street.

Cardholders can present the card to access discounts, promotions and specials at participating shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and market vendors in the city center.

“Companies participating in the program will benefit from more advertising for their business and more spending in their stores.

“We worked with the City Council and Jubilee2 to bring the program together and with such a fantastic range of stores in Newcastle we really hope it will increase footfall and encourage more customers to shop locally.”

The project is currently being piloted within the BID border, but has the potential to roll out across the district. The customer cards are now available at the Jubilee2 reception.

Councilor Stephen Sweeney, Cabinet Secretary for Finance, City Centers and Growth, Newcastle-under-Lyme City Council, said: “We are excited to be working with Newcastle-under-Lyme BID on this mutually beneficial program.

“We encourage our valued Leisure Customers who visit Jubilee2 several times a week to celebrate and support their local businesses in Newcastle Town
Center at this time. Offering you a range of exclusive discounts on a variety of quality services is a great way to accomplish this.

“Creating vibrant city centers where everyone can shop is one of our top priorities; Significant improvements are underway in both Newcastle and Kidsgrove to help them adapt to long-term changes in the way we use our shopping streets, thanks to more than £ 52 million from the advanced Town Deals Fund and the government’s Future High Streets Fund.

“We are making fantastic progress in breathing new life into our historic Newcastle market as part of this major transformation program and it is great to see several stallholders considering joining the Love Local program.”

A handful of companies have already joined the program, including major retailers Ryman, Subway, and Timpson.
