Photos show Greggs new drive-thru after opening in Portland

FAST food giant Greggs has opened a new thoroughfare in Dorset.

The Osprey Quay gas station opened last month in Portland with a Budgens supermarket and a Costa Express machine.

A Greggs branch – the first branch of the bakery chain on the island – was also opened on the premises at that time. And now the eagerly awaited through hatches have been opened for customers after receiving the building permit.

The location is operated by the small independent fuel dealer / operator Falcon Retail Ltd and is adjacent to Portland Beach Road, Coode Way and Mereside, right next to the existing roundabout halfway down Beach Road.

The new drive-through at the end of the forecourt building opened at 9:30 a.m. yesterday, making it one of the 10 of its kind in the UK – which is causing curious motorists to pull up to take a look at the new start.

If you are looking for a sausage roll or a hot drink, drive around the back of the new forecourt and follow the blue lines.

When looking at a menu, they must notify the seller of their order before heading to the next hatch.

Greggs branch employees said several drivers had tried the new drive by Tuesday afternoon.

One driver who tried the new Greggs drive-through service said, “I thought I should just give it a try and see what the excitement is about.

“I found it easy to order the food, no problems getting the food or paying for it. It’s nice that Portland has that.”

The popular bakery chain announced its expansion to include drive-through services more than three years ago in order to benefit from the food-on-the-go market.

Since opening a transit in Irlam, Manchester, the fast food company has opened branches in Swansea, Newcastle and the Midlands.

The new petrol station and the associated shop area with car wash and charging stations for electric vehicles has created up to 35 full and part-time jobs.

There are around 20 parking spaces and some outside tables for customers to eat or drink on the premises.
