Steve Bruce’s horror start to life at West Brom shows no signs of easing

Former Newcastle manager Steve Bruce’s torrid start to life at West Bromwich Albion continued with a 2-0 defeat against Swansea City last night.

The Baggies are 13th in the Championship table and eight points off the play-off places with 12 league games left to be played.

When West Brom’s hierarchy chose to part ways with Valerien Ismael at the start of last month, the West Midlands side were fifth in the table.

Looking to earn promotion to the Premier League for the fifth time during his managerial career, Bruce has got off to a dreadful start at the Hawthorns.

My Europa League Predictions.

In five Championship games, Bruce’s West Brom have only scored one goal and picked up one point from a possible 15.

It means following his ill-fated start to the Premier League season with Newcastle before PIF yielded the axe, Bruce is yet to win this season despite taking charge of 14 games.

Bruce hasn’t won a game of football since the final day of last season.

The Baggies were booed off at the final whistle by fans and although Bruce accepts the club is going through a difficult spell, he believes both him and his players should be dealing with the disgruntled fanbase better.

“There’s a lot of anxiety around the area, on the terraces,” Bruce told BBC Radio West Midlands.

“But we should be able to handle it better.”

The 61-year-old added: “One win in 12 games, for a club of this stature in the Championship is simply not good enough.

“It was a difficult night. But, even with all the years I’ve been doing it, it becomes more difficult when you put on a performance like we witnessed. And, if I’m being honest, that’s two or three now.”

Whilst Steve Bruce’s winless nightmare continues, Newcastle’s fortunes have changed dramatically since Eddie Howe took over the reins from the club’s predecessor.

The Magpies are unbeaten in seven Premier League games and continue to build momentum as we climb the table and move away from the relegation zone.
