Extra West Midlands Police officers will patrol the streets throughout the region during the Qatar World Cup
Extra police officers will patrol the streets of Birmingham and the wider region over the next month to tackle anti-social behavior during the World Cup.
The tournament takes place in Qatar and gets underway this Sunday (November 20). With 32 nations and the world’s best players taking part, football fans will no doubt be packing out pubs in the city to watch the games.
As there will be more fans enjoying the football in bars across the West Midlands, extra police will be on the streets to offer reassurance.
Superintendent Nick Rowe, head of the football unit, said: “We all just want everyone to have a great time and enjoy the football without any problems.
“This is a very exciting time, a time where football fans come together and enjoy a month of football. You may see a few extra police officers out and about as England make their way through the tournament.”

Which pubs can I watch the World Cup from?
The first match of the 2022 World Cup takes place on Sunday November 20 between hosts Qatar and Ecuador. The final of the tournament takes place on Sunday November 19.

The Australian themed bar and restaurant will show all games from the tournament which can be enjoyed with food and drink. Bookings can be made now to secure your place in front of one of the huge HD TV’s at the bar.

Plenty of live sport is shown at Hennesseys, and the World Cup will take center stage through November and December. With plenty of screens, you’ll not be short of viewing options at this Digbeth bar, but booking ahead will be important.

Digbeth-based party venue Luna Springs is set to show all games from this year’s World Cup. During the games, the venue will also be providing giveaways and confetti drops as well as exclusive merchandise.
Drinks packages are available to book, with guests being encouraged to book early to secure their spots. Tickets for the final will be released following first match play-offs. England matches are priced at £10 per person and include a can of beer, a cider or a cocktail on entry, all other games are free to attend.
