Birmingham Post Business Awards 2021 – Meet the Judges

A jury of business executives was brought together to judge our Birmingham Post Business Awards 2021.

This year’s awards recognize excellence for individuals, businesses and the third sector in 11 different categories – read the full shortlist here.

The 2021 ceremony will take place online next month due to strict restrictions. This year awards include small and new companies, exporters and young entrepreneurs, among others.

There is also a one-time Covid Defiance Award for a company that has shown exceptional strength in the face of the pandemic.

The ceremony will be hosted on our new virtual event platform, The Awards Room, which will allow nominees and sponsors to network in real time, with guests grouped at their own tables.

The jury from 2021 is:

Suzie Branch-Haddow, Birmingham Metropolitan College

Suzie is the vice president of external development at Birmingham Metropolitan College and leads the college’s commercial engagement and income diversification activities. Their roles include apprenticeship training, business and economic engagement, stakeholder management, strategy and finance, recruiting, careers and employability.

It supports education and business in coming together and helping the economy and communities in our region grow and prosper. Prior to joining BMet, Suzie built her career in marketing and public relations and was also Chair of BPS Birmingham Future. In 2009 she was named Birmingham Young Professional of the Year.

Graeme Brown, Birmingham Post

Graeme Brown is the editor of the Birmingham Post, its sister newspaper Birmingham Mail, and the online news service BirminghamLive. His 17-year journalist career spanned a variety of disciplines including news, campaigns and corporate, including a five-year tenure as a business editor for the Post.

During this time he covered key economic developments in the metropolitan area, including the progress of HS2, the arrival of HSBC UK and projects such as Paradise and Arena Central. More recently, he led the launch of the online news service BlackCountryLive and served as interim editor for the Coventry Telegraph.

Maxine Dalziel, InYourArea and panel chair

Maxine has been the community leader for the southern region at InYourArea for a little over a year.

She is a contributor to hyper-local community news both online and in regional newspaper fronts in the south of England, operated by the Birmingham Post and BusinessLive publisher Reach plc.

Maxine joined regional printing 13 years ago, collecting community news and then becoming a sub-editor before spending two years as content manager for the South East and Cambridge regional community area.

Rebecca Delmore, Millennium Point

Rebecca is Commercial Director at Millennium Point in Birmingham, where she is responsible for commercial revenue streams such as real estate, events and their charitable foundation.

Her focus is on building the brand and profile of the public building and maximizing business opportunities to give away donations to STEM organizations in the West Midlands.

Rebecca’s priorities include creating and executing a ten-year strategic plan to ensure the commercialism of the business meets shareholders’ expectations.

Aaronpreet Khatkar, Propel Finance

Aaronpreet is Director of Asset Finance Relationship at Propel Finance, one of the UK’s largest independent financial firms, helping companies grow their businesses by financing new and used equipment, including equipment, machinery and IT.

Propel Finance has partnered with Barclays Bank and accounting firm Azets to provide more than 40,000 companies with access to finance to quickly and easily purchase critical equipment and vehicles. He supports companies through the use of financial products that are available to them through a wide range and adapts financing products to the needs of customers.

Kurt Pollard, Barclays

Kurt is the regional manager for Barclays Business Banking in the West Midlands and Warwickshire. He has worked in banking and finance for 15 years and gained his economics experience and degrees in Australia before moving to the UK in 2016.

A vocal advocate for employee welfare and corporate short-termism, Kurt now leads a team of 14 account managers and directors who help thousands of West Midlands companies achieve their goals.
