Boy, 7, hit by car in Handsworth Street

A child was hit by a car on a city street, police confirmed.

The seven year old boy was hospitalized after being knocked over on Hutton Road in Handsworth tonight.

Rescue workers, including marked police vehicles and an ambulance, were pictured at 6.30 p.m. at work on the scene.

Police said the boy was being examined in the hospital but hoped it did not “look serious”.

A West Midlands police spokeswoman said: “The seven-year-old boy was taken to the hospital for a checkup, but hopefully it doesn’t look serious.”

The collision occurred just hours after a pedestrian was hit by a Mazda driver in a separate incident on Stratford Road in Sparkhill.

The 80-year-old man is fighting for his life in the hospital after being critically injured in the attack this morning.

West Midlands Police have opened an investigation into trying to track down the MX-5 driver who fled the scene on foot.

A section of the road between Hillfield Road and Forman’s Road was closed by police for more than six hours after the incident at 11:30 a.m.
