The M6 has been closed southbound between Cannock and Telford to allow the recovery of an overturned lorry that crashed early Wednesday morning.
The closure will affect Junction 12 off the A5 junction to Gailey.
At around 8:20 a.m., the truck carrying 44 tons of aluminum overturned and got stuck on a barrier.
Initially, two lanes of the highway were closed, but the area inside Junction 12 has since been closed to salvage operations.
National Highways: West Midlands said in a Twitter update just after 10pm on Wednesday there were about three miles of congestion on the approach and advised motorists to allow an extra 20 minutes for their journeys.
The traffic information service Inrix announced that a diversion via the exit and access roads had been set up.
Highways England warned that cleaning work is expected to continue throughout the night, with normal traffic conditions not expected to resume until 9.45am on Thursday.
