Sandwell and Birmingham Mela confirm new comeback dates for 2021 after a pandemic

The organizers at Sandwell and Birmingham Mela have announced new dates for 2021.

Considered the UK’s largest South Asian music festival, the event was canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and announced with new dates in July 2021.

It has now been postponed again and will take place on the August bank holiday weekend from August 28th to 30th.

The festival takes place in Victoria Park in Smethwick and attracts thousands of people.

Now in its tenth year, the Mela is considered one of the largest events of its kind outside of India. It is designed to showcase international talent and provide a platform for new and emerging British artists.

It offers two stages with pop, folk and classical music from around the world as well as British-Asian urban acts, dance, handicrafts, exhibitions, a fair, the Tastes of Asia Food Hall and a shopping bazaar.

Almost a quarter of the audience comes from non-Asian communities, so the organizers are aiming for “a truly intercultural family event with something for every generation of each community”.

Danny Singh, Founder of Sandwell & Birmingham Mela, said: “It has been a challenging and uncertain year for everyone, but the government’s recent reopening roadmap has given us all new hope as summer approaches.

“With that said, we are confident there will be a Mela this August. Everyone can rest assured that we will continue to follow all updated guidelines and advice to ensure that the Mela is as safe as possible for everyone.

“We look forward to seeing everyone back at Victoria Park on Bank Holiday weekend in August and celebrating our 10th birthday in style. The West Midlands has a vibrant South Asian community with a rich history of mela and this is where you can celebrate the rest of the world Local community. “

To help businesses, traders and caterers recover from the pandemic, booth fees for trading and catering have been discounted, with the extra day of the event being offered at no additional cost.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at www.birminghammela.com from £ 2 per day and £ 5.50 for all three days.

They can also be bought at the gate during the day. Advance reservations are recommended to avoid queues.
