A “corrupt” police officer who entered into a “flirtatious and sexualized” relationship with a vulnerable victim of domestic violence has been fired.

PC James Ankrett abused police powers and began an “inappropriate” relationship with the woman for his own sexual satisfaction.

He was on duty with West Midlands Police when he “deliberately” gave the victim his personal cell phone number while on a call at his home.

The former Hednesford official was fired after a police misconduct hearing on Thursday October 14th.

It came after the 40-year-old admitted charges of corrupt or other improper police powers in Wolverhampton Crown Court last month.

Ankret, who failed to appear at his hearing for misconduct, is due to be tried in court next week.

Herjinder Singh, an attorney with West Midlands Police, said Ankrett’s behavior was a “clear violation” of police protocols.

At the wrongdoing hearing, he said, “We’ll say that” [culpability] highly rated. It was especially grave because it resulted in a criminal conviction for a serious crime.

“It was the officer who made a conscious choice to give a member of the public his or her personal mobile phone.

“Communication became flirtatious and sexualized very quickly.

“In this case there are various aggravating factors. Its purpose was sexual gratification. It amounts to a serious abuse of his position as a police officer.

“His behavior continued for a while. The victim was vulnerable. The behavior was a clear violation.

“He made no attempt to seek advice from a colleague or senior officer.”

Actually, the inappropriate relationship with the victim began in July 2017 and was charged two years later following an investigation by the Independent Police Conduct Office (IOPC).

The former operations officer was restricted from his duties and, following the allegation, worked in a non-public capacity.

Chief Constable Dave Thompson said Ankrett’s behavior was “totally unacceptable” and dismissed the officer without notice.

Speaking at the hearing at the Birmingham Police Headquarters, he said: “The officer has been convicted of a very serious crime relating to the corrupt and improper use of police powers.

“It is unacceptable for police officers to break the law. This is an extremely serious case.

“In this case, there is damage. The victim trusted the policeman at a difficult time in his life. ‘
