The Lichfield shoppers were thanked for supporting a program that will help prevent people from hunger this winter.
Tesco said a collection in Lichfield contributed to 24,000 meals donated in Staffordshire.
The donations will help food banks in the Trussell Trust network provide emergency kits and help FareShare serve thousands of frontline charities.
Tesco has also agreed to top up all positions with a 20 percent cash donation to the two organizations.
Simone Connolly, director at FareShare Midlands, said the buyers’ donations would make a big difference.
“Grocery collection is so important because by donating durable items we can complement the fresh groceries we receive from Tesco year-round with staples like rice, canned vegetables, and tea and coffee.
“Thank you to every single Tesco customer who donated to the food collection this year – your generous donations will help us continue to support local charities and community groups helping feed people in need this winter.”

Claire de Silva, community leader at Tesco said:
“During this time, we are more grateful than ever for the support of all of our customers who have donated in-store to make this collection the largest long-life collection in our stores since the pandemic began.
“We know this is going to make a really big difference for the locals this winter.”
