Where are the most expensive roads to live in in the UK?

The pandemic may have resulted in an exodus from many cities, but London retains its crown with the most expensive addresses in the UK.

The country’s most expensive Millionaire’s Rows have been revealed by new research, and top of the list is Tite Street in the London borough of Chelsea and Kensington, where the average home value is just under £ 30 million.

In fact, the top 10 most expensive streets are all in London and cost more than £ 19 million on average.

However, prices have risen faster on the most expensive streets outside the capital as shoppers starve for more space outside the city after several closings.

The average home price on one of the top ten most expensive streets in the North and West Midlands rose 11 percent in one year, making them the top two performing regions.

In the northwest they have risen by an average of 5 percent, followed by the East Midlands with 4 percent. London, on the other hand, only recorded an increase of 1 percent.

At the other end of the scale, home prices on these streets in the southwest have fallen 15 percent, while the average price in East Anglia has fallen 5 percent.

The most expensive street – Tite Street – runs between the banks of the Thames to the south and the famous Kings Road to the north.

It replaces last year’s top spot, Avenue Road in London’s St. John’s Wood, according to Halifax’s annual poll.

Second on the list is Phillimore Gardens, near Holland Park, where the average price is £ 25,188,000.

Third is South Audley Street in Mayfair, where the average home costs more than £ 22 million.

London streets continue to dominate the top 10 most expensive streets, particularly the areas of Kensington, Chelsea and the City of Westminster.

But the southeast also proves that it has its share of expensive addresses.

In eleventh and twelfth place are South Ridge and East Road in Surreys Weybridge with averages of £ 7,125,000 and £ 6,862,000 respectively.

Esther Dijkstra of Lloyds Bank said: “London’s dominance of the UK’s ten most expensive streets continues, with house prices averaging £ 19 million on some of the capital’s most iconic streets.

HISTORY OF TITE STREET

The street is named after William Tite, who as a member of the Metropolitan Board of Works was responsible for the construction of the Chelsea Embankment south of Tite Street.

Gough House stood on the east side of the street and was built around 1707. It became a school in 1830, then the Victoria Hospital for Children in 1866. In 1898 the building was deemed unsuitable. The hospital moved to St. George’s Hospital, and the original building was demolished in 1968. Today the monastery of St. Wilfred and the old people’s home are located there.

In the late 19th century, the street was a popular and fashionable place for artists and writers.

Today a blue plaque commemorates Oscar Wilde’s house at 34 Tite Street

“Houses on the southeastern’s most expensive streets cost around £ 5.5 million and you benefit from more rural locations, all of which are close to the capital.

“However, like house prices overall, houses in London have not experienced the same meteoric rise this year as in other regions. Bigger purse buyers may be looking for their next stately home beyond the capital. ‘

Halifax used information from multiple sources, including the Land Registry, which averages between January 2016 and September 2021.

The dominance of London continues despite the so-called “space race” among apartment hunters during the pandemic.

Guy Meacock from Prime Purchase said: “Covid was the perfect catalyst that awakened not only the desire for space, but also for more outside space, away from the neighbors and a bit of wonderful isolation that the densely populated city could easily do . ” t deliver.

“Compared to London, there was compelling historical value in the country, while an entire market cycle and exceptional activity were wrapped up in a tiny 18 month window that turned parts of the country into their own golden zip codes. ‘

However, he added, “Before Omicron showed up, city life had quickly recovered.

“Many people bought in the country as a knee-jerk reaction and may wonder if they would have been better off renting, with employers reportedly telling employees to return to the office four days a week.

‘London’s star may have slipped, but it’s also seen a strong rebound with record activity. Whatever happens to London continues to recover, the phoenix that keeps returning. ‘
